NATO secretary general Jans Stontelberg has announced that Montenegro has been formally invited to join the alliance. The invitation marks the beginning of accession talks that will take about a year to complete. This is the alliance’s first expansion after Croatia and Albania joined NATO in 2009.

Foreign property buyers are able to obtain a one year residency permit based on the ownership of a property in Montenegro regardless of its value. The permit can be renewed annually. The government of Montenegro will set no minimum price paid for property by foreign citizens who would like to obtain a residency permit. It will be possible to get a one year residency permit based on ownership of the property regardless of its value. Each year the permit can be extended.
